Executive Leadership
Emperorburger is led by a world-class team of six visionaries, each fully aligned on the mission and in open disagreement about what it is.
“A leadership team that agrees is a leadership team that has stopped thinking. Mine thinks constantly.”
The Emperor
Dr. Anil Varghese-Holt, Chief Burger Officer

I believe the cheeseburger is fundamentally an inference problem. Since joining Emperorburger, I’ve moved us to an AI-first, agentic burger stack in which autonomous patty agents negotiate with LLM-powered bun orchestrators in real time. Human cooks remain in the loop, mostly for liability reasons. My thought leadership on LinkedIn has been described as “frequent.” I hold a doctorate in something adjacent to this, and I’ve never personally eaten a burger, because I prefer to keep my priors clean.
“Every burger is just a prompt we haven’t engineered yet.”
Denise Okafor, VP of Synergy

I’ve been VP of Synergy for eleven years, which is four reorgs and two rebrands of synergy itself. I own cross-functional alignment, which means I attend every meeting and get invited to none. When someone says “let’s circle back,” I’m the circle. I’ve leaned in so far I’m basically horizontal now. I still believe in this company. I just believe in it the way you believe in weather.
“Per my last email, and the one before that, and the one in 2019.”
Skyler Tran, Head of Vibes

Okay so my role is basically making sure the brand isn’t cringe, which is a full-time job here, no offense. I was hired after one of our burgers went viral for the wrong reasons. I run our content, our culture, and a Slack channel that leadership isn’t in. I think return-to-office is a vibe violation and I’ve said that in three all-hands. Anil’s AI stuff is mid. The Emperor is lowkey iconic though.
“The burger is giving. The strategy deck is not.”
Gregory Hale, Chief Financial Officer

This is the year of efficiency, and next year will be too. My mandate is to unlock value, and I have found that most value is located inside the patty. Through disciplined right-sizing, we have reduced patty thickness by 40% while preserving the burger’s strategic narrative. I’m now reviewing whether the bottom bun is a core competency. I don’t oppose innovation. I oppose its line items.
“A burger is just a cost center with a bun.”
Ingrid Solberg-Ramos, Chief Sustainability Officer

I joined Emperorburger to make our cheeseburgers net-zero by 2030, a goal I’ve since rebaselined to 2050 and then to “aspirational.” Every image we make is locally sourced, rendered on servers I’ve personally asked to feel bad about it. I believe sustainability starts with alignment, continues with a framework, and ends with a very nice report. My offsets are planted in a forest I have seen pictures of.
“We are committed to change, at a pace that protects our commitments.”
Douglas Pemberton, Chief People & Return-to-Office Officer

Culture happens in person. That’s why I’ve mandated five days a week in the office, including for the remote team in Lisbon. I’ve led us through a people-first right-sizing and several in-person “reconnect” offsites at a lake I own. I believe badge swipes are the truest measure of passion. I work from my boat on Fridays, which counts because the boat has Wi-Fi and a framed copy of our values.
“You can’t build a burger over Zoom.”
“I do not attend meetings. Meetings attend me.”
